AMAZON'S CHECKOUT-FREE STORE
Amazon has launched a new kind of store where you don’t have to use a checkout – you just walk in, grab food off the shelf, and leave. Amazon Go is an 1800-square-foot retail space located in the company’s hometown of Seattle. First, you put the Amazon Go app on your smart phone. Then, you walk in and pick up the food you need – milk, bread, maybe a sandwich or drink off the shelf. The technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves. As you leave the store – without going through a checkout – Amazon records what you’ve taken, charges your Amazon account and sends you a receipt.
* And because it works on technology, nothing can ever go wrong.
* Will they know if you eat a cupcake while you’re walking around looking at stuff then leave with your hands empty?
* Works so well, you’ll be broke before you realize it!
* Hmm. No waiting behind the Neanderthal who pays for groceries by writing a check. Finally something GOOD about the future.
* The downside is, Amazon knows you’ve been eating one too many ham sammiches and a second bag of chips you don’t need, missy.
* I suppose if you really want to, you can download the “Chatty Cashier” app and talk to her while you’re walking out the door.
* Sure, why not get scanned by another electronic field – especially if it saves a few minutes in line?
* Of course, if all these electrical fields were really bad we’d have a cancer epidemic…oh wait….
* What do you bet the data they collect turns into targeted advertising?
* Next up, Amazon will begin reading your mind and telling you what you want to eat.
