PROFESSOR LETS STUDENTS PICK THEIR OWN GRADES
A University of Georgia professor has decided that grades are too stressful for students, so he is allowing students to select their own grades if they’re overly stressed by the ones they earned. Dr. Richard Watson has introduced the policy for his two fall business courses because “emotional reactions to stressful situations can have profound consequences for all involved.” He writes that if students feel “unduly stressed by a grade” they can email him indicating what grade they think is appropriate, and it will be changed with no explanation required. In addition, “If in a group meeting, you feel stressed by your group’s dynamics, you should leave the meeting immediately and need offer no explanation to the group members,” and you can discontinue all further group work with your grade being “based totally on non-group work.” As for the tests, they will be “open book and open notes.”
* So, Dr. Richard Watson has tenure then.
* Because college students are always capable of intelligent decision-making.
* We’ll all be sorry when this kind of grading system starts happening in the engineering department. Or airline pilot school.
* You sure can’t just walk out of a meeting in real life. That’s why people invented daydreaming.
* So remember, if you’re thinking of hiring a University of Georgia graduate, those college scores aren’t real.
