AUDIO: EX-NAVY OFFICER PLAYS TAPS EVERY NIGHT FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Former Navy Lt. Cmdr. Joshua Corney, of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania – who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars – plays a recording of the bugle call Taps on a three-speaker sound system from his porch every night at 7:55 p.m. to honor fallen soldiers. Says Corney, “When I was in Afghanistan and Iraq, I had a conversation with God, and I said, if I made it home, I would do this.” Guess who doesn’t like it? Everybody else. The city sent Corney a letter saying the song is noise violation and warned him to pull the plug. They told him he’s allowed to play the song only on Sundays and select holidays. Corney plans to fight it, and take the city to court, if necessary.
* Great. You’re sitting there at 7:55 trying to feel good about the day you’ve had, and then this guy reminds you you’re going to die.
* Maybe mix it up a little with songs like “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Flight of the Bumblebee”?
* On the bright side, by blasting is at 7:55 each night it alerts everybody in town that it’s time for the Final Jeopardy round.
* Just curious – in his conversation with God, did God ask any of his neighbors if they’d be OK with that?
* It could be worse. He could be blasting Reveille at 5:30 each morning.
