CHILDREN DON'T KNOW HOW TO READ A CLOCK
A new study shows that only 1-in-10 Oklahoma City kids ages 6-12 own a watch. But only 1-in-5 know how to read it. Again: 4 out of 5 kids aged 6-12 don’t know how to read a clock. More than 150 students took the time-telling survey, which featured 15 questions. Only 31 students passed. Only 15 earned perfect scores. At least one school is running an after-school program for students teaching them how to read analog clocks.
* And if the analog clocks have Roman numerals – fuggedaboutit!
* The results would have been even worse, but the worst kids couldn’t figure out when to show up for the test.
* This is from the same schools that ask you to add 2 plus 2, and give you credit if you say 6 because it’s a pretty good estimate.
* An after-school program? Couldn’t you pretty much teach how to read a clock with a three-minute YouTube video?
* Clocks are like cursive. Who’s gonna need it in the future, once the robots take over?
* Don’t you need a clock to tell you when your favorite TV program is on? Doesn’t matter – TV is all on demand now.
* So you’re saying clocks are running out of time?
* That just sounds ominous.
* Our kids can’t read a clock? You know, I wish Richard Pryor was still alive. Richard could have a lot of fun with that.
* “This is the sorriest class I ever did see. You kids look too stupid even to read a clock.”
