COMMUTER DROPS PHONE ON TRACKS, HITS EMERGENCY STOP
A commuter pulled the emergency stop on a train so he could retrieve the phone he dropped on the tracks. New Jersey Transit officials say Eric Jones, of Harlem in New York City, was riding on a North Jersey Coast Line train when he accidentally dropped his phone onto the tracks while he was between cars. He hit the emergency stop signal. The train was stopped around 8:20 a.m. Monday near the Secaucus Junction. The stoppage caused travel delays of up to 15 minutes on several lines during the morning commute. Jones was charged with defiant trespass and interfering with transportation.
* And butterfingers.
* If you don’t want people using the emergency buttons, don’t put ’em on the train.
* “Defiant trespass”? So they add an additional fine for copping an attitude?
* I don’t know about you but “defiant trespass” reminds me of when my relatives come for the holidays.
* He should have said, “I thought I saw a child on the tracks! Oh, look – my phone!”
* To be fair some of the travel delays would have happened anyway.
* I wouldn’t do this for a phone but if I dropped my book of passwords I’d have to retrieve it or my life would be over.
* You’ve heard of “stopping dead in your tracks”? This was “stopping dead on your tracks.”
* Don’t worry: New Jersey and New York are known for their understanding commuters.
