LOWE'S ROLLS OUT THE LOWEBOT
Lowe’s home stores have introduced the Lowebot, a robot that rolls around the store asking if you need help and answering your questions. It says, “I’m Lowe’s Robot helper. I can tell you where things are in the store.” You just tell it what you’re looking for – “I’m looking for hammers,” and the robot then takes you there. The program is rolling out in California this fall; twenty-two of these robots will work in eleven Lowe’s stores in the Bay Area.
* The one continuing problem with the Lowebot is they keep disappearing to the back loading dock to catch a smoke.
* Autonomous robots in a public place with lots of tools and sharp implements. Nothin’ wrong with that.
* Does it tell you when the item you want is cheaper at Home Depot?
* Sure, this will be great … ’til they follow you out in the parking lot.
* Then, someone will catch two Lowebots having sex.
* Then you’ll have them building copies of themselves in the tool section.
* Finally, the manager will open the store one morning and they’ll all be gone.
* Next up: A drone that follows you around and sees what stores you like to shop at.
* Robot, shmobot. How about opening up more checkout lanes?
