NEW ORLEANS STRIPPERS SUE TO OVERTURN AGE LIMIT LAW

In New Orleans, Louisiana, three exotic dancers have filed a federal lawsuit alleging that a law requiring performers in strip clubs be at least age 21 is unconstitutional. The lawsuit comes about a week before state officials begin enforcing the new law in strip clubs statewide. Identified in the lawsuit as Jane Doe I, II and III, the three dancers say the law will rob them of the ability to express themselves with erotic dance, in violation of the First Amendment guarantee of free speech. They also claim the law unfairly targets women, because it defines strip club performers as “entertainers whose breasts or buttocks are exposed to view.” That definition, the dancers claim, applies only to women and “does not prohibit the same conduct by men” who are between the ages of 18 and 21. Supporters of the bill during the legislative session was that it was designed to ensure that people under the age of 21 aren’t exposed to the lure of prostitution through adult nightclubs.
* I’m all for age restrictions for strippers. 46, 47 tops. After that, it just gets real sad.
* Jane Doe 1, 2 and 3? Shouldn’t the plaintiffs be, like Raven 1, 2, and 3, or Brandi with an ‘i’ 1, 2 and 3?
* Good question: Should 18, 19 and 20-year-olds be allowed to strip, or should they be made to focus on completing middle school?
* How is the phrase “entertainers whose breasts or buttocks are exposed to view” discriminatory against women? I mean, that can apply to almost any male rapper, too. Pull your pants up!
* The lawsuit is a shame, because this was the very last step needed to finally completely clean up New Orleans.
* If this is a First Amendment issue I’ve got to read the Constitution again.
* Why bother? I side with the strippers in this matter.
* I’m all for people expressing themselves…except in debates. I’m tired of people expressing themselves in debates.
* Meanwhile the club owners see this as a pursuit of happiness case.
