SQUATTERS MOVE INTO HOME WHILE WOMAN IS ON VACATION
Crystal Taylor of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas when she got a call from neighbors saying strangers had been living in her home for a week-and-a-half. Neighbors told Taylor they saw a group of people forcing their way in through the garage in the middle of the night. She rushed home from Cabo to find the suspected squatters with all of their belongings moved in. The suspected squatters claim someone on Craigslist scammed them, and showed officers a lease agreement, but Taylor thinks it’s fake after she found a box of blank lease forms in the garage. But Broken Arrow police didn’t arrest anyone. Instead, they just gave them all a warning for trespassing. Taylor said, “It should be breaking and entering. They broke into my home, they crawled underneath the garage, they have vandalized my home. They have brought roaches and bedbugs into the house and nothing’s being done.” Taylor says she will likely have to pay thousands to repair her floors, walls and pool, which, she said the trespassers damaged.
* Plus now they want their security deposit back.
* Maybe the neighbors should pay, for waiting a week-and-a-half to call her?
* Why didn’t the neighbors call Broken Arrow’s crack police force?
* I’m not sure homeowners insurance has covered squatters since back in the pioneer days.
* This will really take the shine off your vacation – that is for sure.
* I kind of admire the strategy here. When you get caught you flash the fake lease and claim you’re the one getting scammed.
* Of course having a box full of blank leases kind of detracts from the overall slickness.
* All they got was a warning for trespassing? Wow, when did Oklahoma go this soft?
* I can’t even get off with a warning for speeding.
