MINISTER CAUGHT BURGLARIZING ANOTHER CHURCH

The minister of a Canton, Illinois, church was arrested Monday and charged with burglarizing another church. David R. Utt, 39, is minister of the New Hope Community Church in downtown Canton. About 1:10 a.m. Monday, officers on patrol saw a minivan in the back parking lot of the First Church of the Nazarene. The van was partially in the grass with the windows down and the key in the ignition. The van was still warm, but no one was around the vehicle. Officers located an open door in the church and began a search. After hearing a noise, they found Utt using tools to try to break into the office safe. He was charged with burglary to a church, criminal damage to property over $300, and possession of burglary tools.
* Thou shalt not … something … something …
* The Lord helps those who help themselves?
* Of all the nights for his Guardian Angel to skip looking out for him.
* He was the minister of New Hope, and now he has no hope.
* Now he’ll be receiving donations from his cellmate.
* You have to admire the initiative, but that can only go so far.
* Can you imagine next Sunday’s service: “Umm, this week’s collection will be to bail out the pastor.”
* Maybe he was just doing research on the Ten Commandments for future sermons.
* Relax, all he has to say is that the devil made him do it.
