AUDIO: WOMAN EMBEZZLED $7,000 IN QUARTERS

An Albuquerque, New Mexico, woman is facing embezzlement charges after police say she stole more than $7,000 – in quarters – from her former employer. Police say 26-year-old Jessica Madrid stole 29,503 quarters from an apartment complex where she worked as a secretary. Madrid never deposited the quarters in laundry money on behalf of the complex and kept the coins. According to records, Madrid allegedly collected quarters from the complex’s laundry site each week from June 2015 until January 2016. It took apartment complex officials around six months to realize they were being ripped off. According to the police report, Madrid was fired for an unrelated matter before apartment staff approached police about the quarters. It’s unclear what police think Madrid may have done with the money.
* Where did the money go? Hmmmm … let’s think … Albuquerque … old West … Indians … reservations … casinos … nope, nothing comes to mind.
* Was she laundering it? ‘Cause that would be ironic.
* Don’t worry – it’ll all come out in the wash.
* It took them six months to notice there was no income from the laundry ’cause they just figured people had stopped washing their clothes.
* I know! (see audio below).
* I bet she used the money to pay for the hernia operation.
* Everybody who saw her just thought she was putting weight on in her hips.
* She took them from an apartment complex where she worked as a secretary? No, it was an apartment complex where she worked as a thief.
* Okay, she might have been a secretary too but her part-time job was taking quarters.
* Authorities became suspicious when she hired a burro to carry the loot.
* So what did Madrid do with all the quarters? Maybe she went to a tavern and played a million games of pool.
