BURGLAR ON THE LAM HIDES IN LAKE, ALLIGATOR EATS HIM
Matthew Riggins, 22, of Palm Bay, Florida, called his girlfriend and told her he’d be in the area breaking into homes with a friend, according to the Brevard Country sheriff. Residents reported they saw two men dressed in black lurking behind homes. Deputies began searching the area and were later joined by more deputies, K-9 units and a sheriff’s helicopter. Riggins then called his girlfriend to tell her they were being chased and had decided to hide out. The next day, November 13, Riggins’ family reported him missing. Ten days after that, police searchers found Riggins’ body floating in a pond in Barefoot Bay. Investigators said it had the telltale signs of a gator attack. A dive team encountered the same gator while recovering Riggins’ body, and the animal had to be euthanized. Inside the 11-foot gator’s stomach, the medical examiner found proof of how Riggins was killed.
* A knife? A rope? A lead pipe? What is this, Clue? How was he killed, doc?
* The alligator took a bite out of crime, and then swallowed it.
* So, did the gator save the rest of him for later, or did he just not taste that good?
* That is some lousy burglaring.
* Wow – deputies, K-9 units, and a helicopter couldn’t find him – but an alligator did.
* Maybe Florida should have K-9 alligators?
* This story sounds like a croc.
* This has been another case of Natural World Justice.
* My favorite was the prisoners who escaped in Africa and then got treed by lions.
* Yikes. Forget the burglar … How would you like to be on a dive team in the water with an 11-foot gator?
* This is when you say, “We searched the bay and found no sign of him.”
* This could be a new show. You combine “NCIS” with “Swamp People.”
