INDIANS BUILDING A MARIJUANA RESORT
The Santee Sioux tribe, which has a reservation on the plains of South Dakota, already has a successful casino, a 120-room hotel and a 240-head buffalo ranch. Now, the small tribe of 400 is undertaking a new venture – opening the nation’s first marijuana resort on its reservation. The experiment could offer a new money-making model for tribes nationwide seeking economic opportunities beyond casinos. Santee Sioux leaders plan to grow their own pot and sell it in a smoking lounge that includes a nightclub, arcade games, bar and food service, and eventually, slot machines and an outdoor music venue. “We want it to be an adult playground,” tribal President Anthony Reider said. “There’s nowhere else in American that has something like this.” The project, according to the tribe, could generate up to $2 million a month in profit. The resort is expected to launch on Dec. 31 with a New Year’s Eve party.
* Those are gonna be some wild, crazy smoke signals.
* This could be fun. You get really stoned and then go commune with the buffalo herd.
* Or you can go to another pot resort called the state of Oregon.
* “There’s nowhere else in America that has something like this”? He’s obviously never been to Washington State.
* How about every college dorm room everywhere?
* Why just get high with your friends when you can go here for a night and end up broke?
* And three pounds heavier?
* $2 million a month in profit and that’s just from the munchies.
* You don’t think Peyton’s selling a few pizzas in Colorado? Please.
