BROKEN FAKE FINGERNAIL SOLVES MURDER
A Queens, New York, woman murdered her boyfriend, had her son help burn the body, and might have gotten away with it except for a sliver of evidence left behind – her broken fingernail. Police say Dawn McIntosh, 46, flew into a rage at Shawn McWhorter, 43, for allegedly cheating on her. She shot him twice as they fought at her home sometime before Saturday morning, killing him. Then she allegedly tried to move the body, but couldn’t. McIntosh called her 21-year-old son who, with an unidentified relative, came to help her, cops said. They tried to hoist McWhorter’s body into the cargo area of the victim’s Jeep, but the body was too heavy, so they switched to Plan B, allegedly dousing it with lighter fluid and setting it on fire. The corpse was so badly burned that authorities could identify him only by half a tattoo on his left arm. But one other critical clue was also left behind – a broken fake fingernail. As police were questioning McIntosh, they noticed she was missing one fingernail, and they confronted her. She confessed to the murder on the spot, cops said.
* The fickle fingernail of fate strikes again.
* She was nailed by her own nail.
* It’s like if an episode of “Elementary” only tasted three minutes.
* The takeaway here is, if you’re going to get your nails done, ladies, wait ’til after the murder.
* You know the remarkable thing here? How quickly her family members jumped into help.
* I mean how does that call work? “I’ve just killed someone. I need help moving the body” “Okay, we’ll be right over.”
* Heck, my family barely picks up my phone calls.
* Maybe they were thinking, “We better help. If she shot him, she could shoot us, too.”
* The mother and son are going to jail, so who gets to keep the lucky family handgun?
* I still say she should have tried to finesse this: “Yes, that’s my fingernail, officer. It must have come off while I was trying to defend myself.”
