CO-OP BOARD REQUIRES DOG DNA TESTS

Residents of an Upper West Side apartment tower in New York are angry over their co-op board’s new policy requiring them to provide proof of their dogs’ pedigrees. The co-op board at 170 West End Ave. is demanding letters from veterinarians to verify the breeds of the dogs in the building to make sure they are on the list of approved pooches. The board has a list of 27 breeds that are not permitted to reside in the building because of their tendency towards aggressiveness. Those breeds include Malteses, Pomeranians, St. Bernards and German shepherds. Dogs that are unable to bring a note from their doctors will have to take a DNA test. Said one resident, “That is just doggie discrimination. This is New York, the melting pot. New Yorkers should not put up with this kind of discrimination.”
* Careful, buddy – if you get too aggressive, they’ll kick you out.
* Good luck telling the pit bull owners their dogs’ gotta go.
* What if you have an aggressive breed but your dog is a wimp?
* Wait, with all the elitism in housing in New York THIS is where they draw the line?
* This is not just discrimination. Using the term “breeds” is racist.
* Besides, what if your German Shepherd self-identifies as a Chihuahua?
* If the dog thinks it’s a Chihuahua we have to respect that. Otherwise it wouldn’t be politically correct.
