MCDONALD'S WORKERS TO STAGE MASSIVE PROTEST
McDonald’s workers will gatecrash the burger company’s shareholder meeting on May 21st with “the biggest ever protest” demanding an end to “poverty wages” paid to many of its 420,000 workers. As the company announced plans to turn around its ailing business, Fight for $15, a union-backed protest group looking for a livable $15-an-hour wage, set out plans for a day of protest at the company’s Chicago headquarters. McDonald’s president and CEO Steve Easterbrook recently announced U.S. workers’ hourly minimum wage would be increased from the current average wage of $9.01 to $9.90, but even this only applies to the 10% of stores owned by the company. “Fed up with pay that drives them to rely on public assistance to support their families and angry over the publicity stunt disguised as a wage increase, McDonald’s workers will insist that the fast-food giant include in its turnaround plan a serious investment in the cooks and cashiers who make its billions in profits possible,” Fight for $15 said.
* McDonald’s responded by asking “Would you like a pink slip with that?”
* Here come the burger-flipping robots.
* Weird. McDonald’s workers look so happy in their commercials.
* Meanwhile over at Burger King, they’re just keeping their heads down and hoping it all blows over.
* Great, so I’m supposed to buy food from employees that I know are mad?
* They should relax – somebody has to get less if the 1% want everything.
* Let me go over the concept of leverage again.
* Oh, so the wage increase was only for 10% of all McDonalds? My, how very corporate of you.
* I don’t know what we’ll be eating when the revolution comes, but I don’t think we can count on McDonald’s burgers.
