BANK ROBBER BRINGS ALONG HIS DOG – May 22
An armed bank robber brought his dog along on the job. Officials say Calvin Eklund entered a Phoenix Chase Bank with a rifle – and a small dog. He yelled, “This is a robbery!” and fired his rifle once into the ceiling. No one was hurt. He made off with a little over $2,000, driving away in a white Ford van, which was later spotted by a Phoenix Police Department helicopter and stopped. Mr. Eklund allegedly admitted to the robbery after being taken into custody. He told police he had several mental health conditions that he was trying to get help for. He said he “snapped” just before allegedly robbing the bank.
* It’s at least nice that the bank allows emotional support pets.
* Was it Take Your Dog to Work Day?
* Pretty good remake of “Dog Day Afternoon,” this time with a real dog.
* He would have gotten away but the dog insisted he go back to the teller’s window and grab a lollipop.
* He’ll probably get seven years in jail, but the dog will only get one year because, you know, dog years.
