FATHER OF THE YEAR: SEATBELTS, LICENSE, WARRANTS, TODDLERS, SNOT, AND A GUN – May 15
In St. Paul, Minnesota, a man was pulled over on a traffic stop for not wearing his seat belt. The man admitted to the officer that he did not have a driver’s license and apologized for not wearing his seat belt. The cop checked and learned the man had warrants for his arrest. There were also three kids in the back seat of the car, all of them under the age of 3. One of the children was not properly buckled and was crying. A second child climbed down to a diaper bag on the floorboard to grab a tissue for their sibling with a runny nose. That’s when the child came up and turned toward the officer, holding a handgun. The officer checked and found the firearm did not have a round of ammunition in its chamber, but had six rounds of ammunition in its magazine. When asked where the gun came from, the child pointed to the diaper bag. The man told police he had the gun for protection because he had been receiving death threats.
* Like any day with three kids under 3 is a good day, but this was the worst.
* The kid pulled out a gun from the diaper bag, but the cop was lucky — he could have pulled out a dirty diaper.
* The only way this could have been worse is if the guy had been taking the kids on an outing to the shooting range.
* This is what traffic cops call “Hitting the Seat Belt Jackpot.”
* You realize they don’t pull you over for the unbuckled seat belt, right? They pull you over to see what else they can find.
* That’s the REAL reason you should always buckle up.
