MAN FALLS THROUGH ICE WHERE POLICE ARE PRACTICING WATER RESCUES – Feb 6
Officers with the King County Sheriff’s Office on Mercer Island, Washington, were finishing up practicing water rescues at Fish Lake when, out of the corner of his eye, one of the deputies saw a man fall through the ice. The crew were still dressed in their water rescue gear and equipped to put their practice to use in the real life-or-death ordeal. The rescuers spread out their body weight by crawling toward the man, who was thrashing in 35-degree water in a gaping hole in the ice. They were able to secure him with rescue devices and quickly hauled him to the dock. The man was taken to a cabin and given dry clothes to change into. He was able to drive home on his own once he warmed up.
* I hope he stopped on the way and bought a lottery ticket.
* Now he has something to talk about at dinner with the wife.
* He was simultaneously really unlucky and extremely fortunate.
* It was the opposite of when you roll through a stop sign and there’s a cop sitting right there to ticket you.
* Fall through ice during a rescue training session, you’re fine. And yet, if you practice your arson outside a fire station, they arrest you.
