AUDIO: DICTIONARY.COM’S WORD OF THE YEAR: XENOPHOBIA

In another nod to media fearmongering, Dictionary.com has declared “xenophobia” its word of the year. According to Dictionary.com, the word had the largest spike in lookups this year, particularly on the day after the UK voted to leave the European Union. The word xenophobia is defined as “fear or dislike of the customs, dress, etc., of people who are culturally different from oneself.”
* I bet it was the Europeans who work for Dictionary.com who picked that word.
* Runner-up was “deplorables.”
* What if you’re scared of people who are culturally different because they keep killing people in YOUR culture?
* Notice they don’t say UNWARRANTED fear.
* I always thought xenophobia was fear of Warrior Princesses. (see audio below)
* So a xenophobe would be offended by men dressing like Xena.
* So, almost any male character on “Game of Thrones.”
* I never learned this one. See, I have a fear of big words.
* I call it S.A.T.-phobia.
* Now Trump wants to build a wall around the word.
* At least it was already a word. The real problem is the influx of new words like Brexit.
