THIS YEAR’S TOY HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
The Swing, Dungeons & Dragons, and Fisher Price’s “Little People” were inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame Thursday morning at The Strong museum in Rochester, New York. The nominees that didn’t make it: Care Bears, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Transformers, Nerf foam balls, Clue, Uno, pinball, coloring books and bubble wrap.
* Yes, it’s not a perfect fit but bubble wrap is considered a toy. It’s like when rap acts get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
* Meanwhile, styrofoam peanuts can’t get any love.
* I know, I know … if you induct ALL the nominees, it cheapens the whole concept. Of a Toy Hall of Fame. A Toy. Hall. Of. Fame.
* I believe Fisher Price’s “Little People” like to be called Fisher Price’s “Height Disadvantaged People” these days.
* Dungeons & Dragons. Of course. Riding in on the coattails of “Stranger Things.”
* If you’re ever in Rochester, New York, be sure to take the kids to the Toy Hall of Fame Museum where they’re not allowed to TOUCH ANYTHING.
* The swing finally made it? What took so long? They’ve been around since time began.
* They’ve been considering the swing for years, but they just kept going back and forth on it.
* Where are all the toy weapons? That’s what’s driving the business and you know it.
* You walk through the toys aisle at a department store – it looks like a toy version of a weapons dump.
* Of course, that would suggest we have a violent society and we do.
