SCHOOL WON’T LET MOMS BRING FORGOTTEN LUNCHES

A Catholic high school in Little Rock, Arkansas, is making headlines after a photo of a controversial sign posted on its front door went viral on Facebook. The sign at Catholic High School for Boys reads, “If you are dropping off your son’s forgotten lunch, books, homework, equipment, etc., please TURN AROUND and exit the building. Your son will learn to problem-solve in your absence.” The school’s principal, Steve Straessle, says that the rule teaches students a valuable lesson. “It’s simply to help boys avoid the default switch of calling mom and dad when things don’t go right to bail them out.” The response to the sign has been split. Many parents praised the school in the post’s comments:
– “If only ALL schools were like this.”
– “If someone cannot remember their lunch, it will only happen once. They will learn to be a responsible adult and hopefully pass on the trend to their children as well.”
But others weren’t as impressed:
– “This has to be a suggestion, especially if I’m paying for my child to be there.”
– “No one is perfect. We as adults forget our packed lunch as we head out to work. We have resources to get our lunch. I hope these kids are getting lunch. We do need to teach our children to be independent but they also need to be taught to be compassionate and show mercy.”
* A Catholic school. Hmm – “What Would Jesus Do?” Let ’em go hungry?
* “Little Rock, Arkansas – Building Men of Strong Character Since Bill Clinton.”
* It’s important to distance kids from Mom and Dad as early as possible.
* I bet they’d let the mom in who’s bringing her son’s lice treatment.
* I’m sure the Catholic School nuns are compassionate about helping the students find their way to a meal.
* The school will change its mind as soon as those kids figure out they can order pizza delivered.
* Maybe this will teach the kids without lunch to strong-arm the weaker students.
* What? That could help them in the business world.
* It’s not a big problem. Our kids didn’t get this fat by forgetting lunch.
* No lunch just means more candy from the vending machines.
