AUDIO: ORIGINAL “HERE COMES THE BRIDE” MANUSCRIPT FOR SALE
An original manuscript of German composer Richard Wagner’s famous Wedding March is expected to sell for $3.6 Million in an online auction. The musician created the piece, originally titled Treulich Gefuhrt, for his 1850 opera Lohengrin, but it was popularized in 1858, when it was used for the nuptials of Victoria, the Princess Royal and Prince Frederick William of Prussia. The tune has since become known as the Wedding March or Here Comes the Bride and is still used today as brides walk down the aisle.
* True fact: the actual title of the song, Treulich Gefuhrt, translates to “Let’s Eat Some Cake”.
* The manuscript still has the notations of where the drums are supposed to kick in.
* “Let’s Eat Some Cake” is also the official song of the Mike and Molly show.
* Although I doubt he’ll be carrying her over the threshold.
* You know what this highlights? How few good compositions there are about divorce.
* I hear this thing was in heavy rotation in 1858.
