HOTEL WAKES YOU UP WITH A RED PANDA
A Chinese hotel has been ordered to end its unusual wake-up call service. When you wake up at the Lehe Ledu Liangjiang Holiday Hotel in Chongqing, they bring one of their four adorable red pandas up to your bedroom in the morning, and allow it to roam freely around the room and climb onto the bed. Many guests stay at the hotel just for the panda experience. However, the local Forestry Bureau has asked the hotel to immediately cease all close contact between the pandas and visitors. Scientists from the World Animal Protection organization note that red pandas are a nationally protected wild species and should not be kept as pets or for tourism-related entertainment. There are also concerns about injury or disease transmission. But the hotel said that the red pandas are borrowed from a zoo, have been vaccinated, and are cared for by dedicated staff.
* I’d be more concerned that the hotel staff will just come into your room in the morning and toss a panda in there.
* The biggest problem is the turnover in the Housekeeping staff.
* It’s China, so they’ll just have to go back to releasing bats into the rooms.
* I was at a hotel like that once. Only it wasn’t pandas that woke you up, it was mice. [* note: True! At a hotel in the Grand Tetons, Wyoming, there was a mouse in the mattress.]
* I know a gal who was staying at a hotel on the fishing docks in the Florida Keys, and woke up with a red snapper.
