Linguists in Australia recently analyzed the Global Web-Based English Corpus, a massive database containing over 1.9 billion words from 1.8 million web pages across 340,000 websites in 20 English-speaking countries. They came up with a list of the Countries That Swear The Most:
1. United States
2. Britain
3. Australia
4. Singapore
5. New Zealand
6. Malaysia
7. Ireland
8. Jamaica
9. Canada
10. Nigeria
* My heavens!
* These are curse words they found on web pages. If you count cursing while driving, the numbers go way up.
* Curse words found on websites? Oh, I get it. It’s from what people are writing in the “comments” sections.
* I always thought is was the damn Scots who swore the most.
* If you watch British tv shows, the English curse like an American sailor.
* I’d tell you what I really think of this study, but I can’t say the words on the air.
