KOREAN MAN TRIES TO DODGE DRAFT BY OVEREATING

A court in South Korea has sentenced a man to a year in prison after he was found guilty of evading mandatory military service by deliberately gaining weight. The 26-year-old man had doubled his daily food intake and consumed large amounts of water before his physical examination for the military draft in 2023. At the exam, he was classified as obese. He was 5’5″ and weighed 225 pounds, which would have allowed him to serve in a non-combat role at a government agency. The man acknowledged his wrongdoing in court and said he would eventually fulfill his military duty.
