POPE TO PRIESTS: SHUT UP ALREADY!
Pope Francis on Wednesday called on Catholic priests to keep their sermons short. A homily, he said, was meant to transfer the word of God from the book to life. “But for this, the homily must be brief: an image, a thought and a sentiment,” the 87-year-old pontiff told the crowd at his weekly general audience. “No longer than eight minutes” so that their congregations would not “fall asleep.”
* After 2,000 years, NOW he tells us!
* Giving rules to priests during a speech to a general audience? Don’t they have an Employee Handbook?
* He said no longer than eight minutes, and if you can condense it into an Instagram post, even better.
* Isn’t every sermon basically, “I know what you’re thinking, so don’t!” How long can that take?
