STOLEN IRAQI GOLD BARS DISCOVERED IN RESTORED TANK

A military enthusiast in the UK bought an old Iraqi tank – from the Gulf War era – on eBay and, in restoring it, discovered $2.5 million of gold bars hidden inside the diesel fuel tank. It’s believed the bullion was looted by plundering Iraqi soldiers during the 1990 invasion of Kuwait but then forgotten about. (* I bet they guys who put it there didn’t forget about it.) The tank’s owner, Nick Mead, runs a business called Tanks-a-Lot on his farm in England, where he restores old military equipment. After discovering the gold bars back in 2017, and realizing there wasn’t much he could do with them – no one’s going to exchange them for cash – Mr. Mead handed them over to authorities. Now, seven years later, he has admitted he wished he had kept them. He believes he should have at least got a finders’ fee, and says that the authorities are still trying to track down the bullion’s owners.
