OLIVE OIL STOLEN
A Greek olive oil cooperative was hit by thieves who stole 37 tons, or around 9,000 gallons, of olive oil. The oil was stolen last week from the Polygyros Olive Oil Cooperative — which roughly 200 local producers are a part of. Producers went to get oil that they had left in custody of the co-op and found the tanks were empty. The amount of oil that was stolen is worth $388,000. (* So, about six bottles.) Those in the cooperative believe it was an inside job. The theft comes after a bad harvest year, causing the prices of olive oil to skyrocket.
* Pretty slick operation.
* First one who says “Ask Popeye” gets fired.
* Looks like somebody’s palm was greased to make this happen.
* To find the crook, they’re gonna burn the midnight oil.
* Can they do a GoFundMe asking for spare olives?
