SHRIMP PIRATES OF ECUADOR

Ecuador is under siege by shrimp pirates. The country is the world’s largest shrimp exporter. But shrimp farmers are now being forced to shell out (SHELL OUT!) millions of dollars in private security to protect against shrimp pirates. In the first eight months of 2023, there were 64 crimes against shrimpers, including violent robberies. In one attack, armed men shot at six shrimp workers at close range, stealing their cargo and racing off in speedboats. In another attack, a driver for a shrimp farm was seriously injured after being hijacked and robbed by armed men along a highway. The criminals sell the shrimp at local markets or to traders who are able to place them into the shrimp export chain.
* Laundered shrimp?
* They steal piles of raw shrimp. That stinks.
* Shrimp pirates: their two main weapons are fear and cocktail sauce.
* If you don’t hand over the shrimp, they send in their mussel.
* What a bunch of bottom-feeders.
* Fishermen are thinking, “Can we just go back to cocaine? It was so much easier.”
