ADVERTISING THAT WORKS

Fark.com asked: “What’s a piece of advertising that absolutely worked on you, for better or worse?” Some of the responses:
– “When I was a teenager, our household received a sample of Lever 2000 soap in the mail. Over 30 years later, I still buy that soap.”
– “Sometime in the late ’70’s we received a small sample bottle of Dawn dish soap in the mail. It must have been good because after that my mother never bought any other brand of dish soap.”
– “The Safelite auto glass jingle.”
– “The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo has signs up for 300 miles on I-40 advertising their 72-oz steak dinner, drinks in boot mugs, rattlesnake fritters, etc. It’s utterly, completely cheesy and we stop there every time we make a cross country trip.”
– “I once went to a wedding and every guest room had a care package from the hosts of various Louisiana foodstuffs. It was my first time eating Zapp’s Cajun Crawtators chips. I buy those all the time now.”
– “I got a Mach III razor for my 18th birthday from Gillette. I’m 40. Been using them ever since with the original handle.”
– “The G.I. Joe WIth Kung Fu Grip commercial worked on me.”
