CHEESE SETS RECORD

A wheel of Spanish blue cheese has officially become the world’s most expensive cheese, selling for over $32,000 at an auction. Weighing in at 2.2 kg (just under 5 lbs), the wheel of Cabrales blue cheese from northern Spain was sold for $32,771.55 (€30,000) during a local cheese festival. Rosa Vada, the maker of the cheese, revealed that the cheese matured for “a minimum of eight months” in a cave and at a temperature of 44°F (7°C). Iván Suárez, the owner of the restaurant El Llagar de Colloto in Asturias, Spain, was the winning bidder.
* He says he intends to grate it and put it on a taco.
* $32,000 for less than five pounds of cheese? It’s like shopping at Whole Foods.
* He blew an awful lot of money on blue cheese.
* The name of the restaurant, El Llagar de Colloto, translates to “We Smell Like Gym Socks.”
* If they can sell one wheel of cheese for $32,000, why not, you know, make two or three at a time? There must be plenty of room in the cave.
