FINNISH SPEEDER GIVEN TREMENDOUS FINE

In Finland, speeding penalties are calculated on the basis of an offender’s income. A wealthy driver named Anders Wiklöf has been fined 121,000 euros ($129,544) for doing 82 kilometers per hour in a 50 kph zone (50 miles per hour in a 30 mph) zone. Said Mr. Wiklöf, “I really regret the matter.” This was Mr. Wiklöf’s third speeding ticket. In 2018, he was fined 63,680 euros ($68,176), and in 2013 he had to cough up 95,000 euros ($102,000).
* Where in Finland is there anywhere to go, much less that fast?
* Fun fact: At 82 kph, you could cross Finland east-to-west in three hours.
* With those fines, I sort of wonder how much he paid for his car, but it would probably make me depressed.
* They asked Mr. Wiklöf to keep on speeding, the country could use a new firetruck and some bridge repair.
