CANADA SEEKS SAILORS FOR NAVY
The Canadian navy needs sailors, and has come up with a recruiting program called the “naval experience program.” Canadians between 17 and 57 years old can join the Navy for one year. At the end of the year, they can either choose to sign on and become a member of the Royal Canadian Navy or they can walk away. But here’s what you get in that year:
– A salary of approximately $42,000
– Food and living quarters paid for
– 20 vacation days
– Choice of east or west coast
Says Petty Officer 2nd class Kyle Medwid, “It’s almost a no-brainer. You get free food, free housing. You get to go on a ship and travel to different areas; a whole plethora of things that normal citizens will never be able to do.”
* You get to use words like ‘plethora.’
* Yeah, there’s also potatoes to peel and toilets to scrub, but hush-hush about all that.
* Every ship has a hockey rink.
* You learn to say things like “Prepare to be boarded!!!! If it’s alright with you. Soory.”
* And it’s Canada, so you’ll never be at war.
