CHINESE GRAMPA KIDNAPPED OWN GRANDDAUGHTER FOR GAMBLING MONEY
A man in China kidnapped his own granddaughter for a $72,000 ransom so he could continue gambling. It happened in Shanghai. The 65-year-old Mr. Yuan picked up his four-year-old granddaughter from her kindergarten and took her out to eat and shop without her mother’s knowledge. The mother received a message from her father demanding “500,000 yuan ($72,000) or you’ll never see your precious daughter again!” She called her father to give up on the plot but failed to sway him. She then called police. Mr. Yuan was arrested that evening and charged with extortion. He protested the charges in court, saying the kidnapping should be considered a family dispute and not a crime. In court, it was revealed that he’d run up a heavy gambling debt.
* He gambled and lost one more time.
* What did they go shopping for? Scratch tickets?
* What’s ironic is, at dinner with his granddaughter, his fortune cookie read “The effort you are making will ultimately pay off.”
* After dinner the two of them played Crazy Eights and his granddaughter slaughtered him.
