SURVEY: AMERICAN SPORTS FANS

According to a new survey of 2,000 Americans who call themselves “sports fanatics” commissioned by the Visit Anaheim tourism board:
– 44% already have a trip planned for this year to see a specific sporting event.
– 45% have left the country to see a game.
– 35% have specifically planned a vacation based on when and where their favorite team is playing.
– The average respondent of this survey would be willing to travel five hours and 48 minutes for a game — and they’d spend $760 for a ticket.
– What would you do to see a particular game? One respondent admitted they missed their friend’s wedding to see their team play. Another traveled 10 hours to another state. Another person drove two hours, took three flights and a train ride — all in order to get to the stadium where their favorite players were participating in an All-Star Game.
* Pity the guy who’s paid a fortune to see Tom Brady’s final game. Twice.
* There’s skipping a friend’s wedding to go to a game, but a real fan would get married AT the game.
* What’s going on here? Is Anaheim trying to convince people they need a football team?
* Look, if you just get off on paying 12 bucks for a beer, that’s what local craft breweries are for.
* PHONE TOPIC: To what extremes have you gone to see a game?
