GRANDMA MOSES DAY
The National Day Calendar website says this:
“Happy Birthday to Anna Mary Robertson Moses, aka Grandma Moses (September 7, 1860 – December 13, 1961). She’s an example to us all of an individual who successfully began a career in the arts at an advanced age. A renowned American folk artist, Grandma Moses first started painting in her 70s after arthritis made it difficult to embroider, her original medium. Known most of her life as either ‘Mother Moses’ or ‘Grandma Moses,’ she was discovered when Louis J. Caldor saw her work in a drugstore window in Hoosick Falls, New York. An amateur art collector, Caldor convinced the Museum of Modern Art to include Moses in a folk art show for members only. This eventually lead to a one-woman show. While Moses displayed her work under the name Mrs. Moses, the press eagerly dubbed her ‘Grandma Moses’ and the name stuck.”

NEITHER SNOW NOR RAIN DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“Neither Rain Nor Snow Day celebrates the opening of the New York Post Office building on this day in 1914. This inscription was made on the building: ‘Neither snow nor rain not heat nor gloom of night, stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.’ A lot of people assume the inscription represents the Post Office motto. In fact it’s very close to the old Pony Express rider’s motto. A lot of people assume the Pony Express was a government funded predecessor to today’s Post Office. But the Pony Express was a privately owned and funded courier and message delivery service.”

ENTERTAINMENT & CELEBRITIES
WIN A DINNER WITH BRAD PITT
You could win a dinner with Brad Pitt. Charitybuzz is holding an auction in support of the environmental initiative Global Green which has partnered with Pitt, a noted environmentalist. Pitt will appear at a private dinner September 29 at one “of the world’s largest private mansions,” located in Beverly Hills. The winning bidder will have the opportunity to attend the event, schmooze with Pitt during dedicated “one-on-one time,” take a photo with him, ask some questions and – oooh! — hear about this new partnership. If you want to bid, go to CharityBuzz.com before September 20.
* Nothing says “save the environment” like the line “one of the world’s largest private mansions, located in Beverly Hills.”
* “You worked with the most glamorous stars in Hollywood, you married crazy woman Angelina Jolie, but please – tell me more about the Global Green initiative!”
* Hopefully he won’t ask you what you thought of “Bullet Train.” That would be awkward.
* Bring a stopwatch so you don’t get shortchanged on the amount of time he’s contractually obligated to talk to you.
THE BUZZ
SCHOOL IN THE 1980’S
Reddit recently asked: “80s/90s kids: What’s something a school teacher did to you that would not fly today?” Some of the answers:
– “A 6th grade teacher would take three kids every Friday to McDonald’s for lunch. She was cool as hell. Smoked during the drive and everything.”
– “I told my biology teacher that I wasn’t feeling too well. He said that I didn’t look sick, and as punishment, made me stand in the corner until I fainted.”
– “English teacher in high school used to chuck the blackboard erasers at kids who were noisy or not paying attention. That chalk would leave marks on kid’s backs for the rest of the day so everyone knew who pissed him off.”
– “My elementary school teacher once washed my friend’s mouth out with soap. This was in 1987.”
– “My elementary school principal would pull loose teeth. You could go to his office, have him pull your loose tooth and he would give you a lollipop.”
– “In elementary school, we had a teacher who, if you leaned back in your chair with your chair on two legs, would sneak up behind you and kick the chair out from under you causing you to fall and possibly smack your head in the floor.”
– “My 3rd-grade teacher had the whole class camp in her backyard after the last day of school. She took us to see the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie in the theater, then we stayed up late telling ghost stories. One of my absolute fondest memories.”
– “I had a high school Spanish teacher tell me after class one day that she wouldn’t say anything if I sucker punched this one annoying bully in the class that she also hated.”
– “If my teacher thought your desk was too messy she’d flip it over and dump out all of the contents in the middle of the classroom and then make you pick them up while everyone watched you. We were six years old.”
* PHONE TOPIC: Have you got a school story that would never be acceptable today?

VIDEO CLIP GROSSING PEOPLE OUT: WASHING TOILET SEAT IN DISHWASHER
A video clip on Instagram is grossing everybody out. The clip, which has racked up 3.5 million views on Instagram – and an untold amount of negative comments – features an unidentifiable woman removing a toilet seat to wash it in the dishwasher along with drinking cups, food bowls and other eating utensils. The definitive comment to come out of this is, “This is why I don’t eat at everyone’s home.” The clip was originally posted by Instagram influencers Janelle Flom and Kate Heintzelman, who stand by their cleaning method.
* Well, they would have to stand, wouldn’t they, until the toilet seat is out of the dishwasher.
* There’s a reason they bolt those things to the commode.
* Has Martha Stewart weighed in on this? How about Dr. Oz?
* Anyone knows the best way to clean a toilet seat is with a sponge, some disinfectant, and a blowtorch. And then make sure you blowtorch the sponge when you’re done, too.
* A toilet seat is one thing. At least it wasn’t a toilet PLUNGER.
“DEAD” PASTOR TWITCHES JUST BEFORE THE ORGAN HARVESTING BEGINS
A North Carolina pastor who was declared dead by doctors has miraculously showed signs of life just as his organs were being prepared for harvesting. Pastor Ryan Marlow, 37, was rushed to a hospital late last month after contracting the bacterial illness listeria. He suffered severe swelling on his brain and eventually slipped into a coma. On Aug. 27, Ryan’s wife, Megan, was told that her husband was clinically brain dead and had therefore passed away. Megan spent the next two days at home mourning her husband and comforting her three children — all of whom are under 6 years old. Meanwhile, Ryan remained on life support for the sake of his upcoming organ harvesting. On August 30th, she returned to the hospital to say a final goodbye to her husband, who would be going into the operating room to have his organs removed for donation. When she arrived, however, another relative was at the hospital and claimed that the pastor’s feet had twitched when he was shown videos of his family. Megan ran into the hall to the nurse, “I need tests done now to see if he’s brain dead.” The tests showed blood was actually flowing to Ryan’s brain and he was not clinically brain dead. Ryan remains on life support and is still in a coma. Although doctors don’t believe he will be able to make a full recovery, Megan shares her husband’s deep sense of faith and is praying for a second miracle.
* Or, if not a second miracle, praying that God stops messing with them.
* A literal case of being moved by Jesus.
* Which backwards South American country is this again? Oh – North Carolina, right.
* “I’m sorry, but the insurance company won’t cover the ‘is there blood flowing to the brain’ test, so we didn’t bother.”
* His feet twitched when he saw videos of his family ’cause he wants to kick them for picking this hospital.
* Somebody really had their heart set on those organs.

WOMAN THROWS DEVIL-THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR 1-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER
A Mexican woman is catching heat on social media after throwing what appeared to be a Satanic-themed birthday party for her 1-year-old daughter. Janeth Zapata shared photos of her daughter Lilith celebrating her first birthday wearing a black outfit at the party decorated with black and pink balloons, a horned demon-character piñata and a cake decorated with a pentagram. After the backlash, Zapata defended herself, writing, “I see there are many news sites that put out my daughter’s party with lies. 1. We’re not Satanists. 2. There were guests. 3. The party didn’t have anything Satanic. 4. The piñata isn’t Satan, it’s Baphomet (a goat-headed pagan deity). 5. The pentagram on the cake isn’t inverted because it’s not Satanic.”
* I’m not so sure I believe her, because she signed her reply with, “See you all in hell.”
* Even if the piñata was filled with Red Hots and Fireballs.
* And the cake was Devil’s Food.
* They ate the cake with little pitchforks.
* Unbelievable. I can NEVER find a Baphomet piñata at Party City.
* As any parent knows, the real hell comes when that girl gets into her teen years.
AUDIO: DOLPHINS REHABBED, RELEASED INTO THE WILD
Three bottlenose dolphins that were rescued from a resort hotel in Indonesia in 2019 were released into the wild last Saturday after they were rehabilitated by a specialized animal sanctuary. The dolphins — Johnny, Rocky and Rambo — were rescued by the Umah Lumba Rehabilitation, Release and Retirement Center in Bali. The three dolphins had spent years performing in traveling circuses until they ended up in a small, chlorinated swimming pool at a resort hotel in North Bali. The Umah Lumba Center worked with the dolphins to prepare them for a return to the ocean. Johnny received dental crowns that allow him to catch his own fish. Rocky and Rambo reportedly gained weight and strength during their rehabilitation.
* Couldn’t they at least also give Johnny a Sylvester Stallone movie character name? “Samaritan” is big right now.
* They were also taught how to read a bus schedule, how to shop, and how to use a credit card.
* The dolphins zoomed out of the cage, gave one final synchronized triple leap out of the water and headed for open sea.
* Although one of them – Rocky, probably – turned around and flipped the fin back at the humans.
* The Umah Lumba Center. It’s just down the street from the Oompa Loompa Institute.

JUSTIN BIEBER CANCELS WORLD TOUR
Justin Bieber has cancelled the rest of his world tour for mental health reasons. Bieber’s “Justice World Tour” has been rolling along since March, but there are still 70 shows left that would have run until March 2023, and those are the shows that have now been suspended. He said, after recently performing in Brazil, “After getting off the stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realize that I need to make my health the priority right now. So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being. I’m going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better.”
LUKE COMBS REFUNDS EVERYONE’S MONEY, GIVES SHOW ANYWAY
Last Saturday night, country star Luke Combs walked out and addressed the crowd in Bangor, Maine, saying he had lost his voice from the night before. He acknowledged all that goes into coming to a show — the tickets, gas money, babysitters and hotels — and stated that because he didn’t feel he could give his best performance that he would be refunding everyone’s tickets. And then, rather than canceling his performance, he still played a shortened set.
