MALL STORE SECRETS

BuzzFeed asked people who have worked at chain stores to spill some secret that people would be surprised to know. Some of the responses:
– “I used to work at Abercrombie in college. The rumors that the stores’ cologne spritzed out of the speakers was not true, but we spent all day spraying the store’s cologne spray on all clothes; that’s why it always smelled super strong.”
– “I used to work at Bath and Body Works. After the semi-annual sale is done, whatever is leftover from the sale, the workers get to fill up a medium bag with whatever was part of the sale and only pay $5.”
– “Bath and Body Works former manager here. The music! I have never forgiven them for their 12-song rotation during the ‘Hawaii’ theme, and that was ages ago!”
– “Lush employee here. If you’re nice to us or just vibe well with us, we WILL give you free stuff. From bath bombs to face masks!”
– “Bath and Body Works. There are no new scents for candles during different seasons. They are just repackaged and renamed. They haven’t come out with new holiday scents in years.”
– “I worked at Skechers a while ago, and in our employee handbook it literally said, ‘No black nail polish; we’re not Journeys.'”
– “I worked at Bath and Body Works in college. The entrances had devices that counted every person who walked through the door, and if sales didn’t match those numbers, the store got penalized and staff working that day got the blame. I watched managers be outright rude to customers who came in and didn’t buy anything because of this.”
– “I worked at Hot Topic. There is nothing in the back room. If you ask us to look for something in the back, we go and sit down for five minutes.”
– “I worked at Claire’s in the late ’90s. It was my first job at 16, and I was so nervous to begin training to be able to pierce ears. Well, I practiced on a teddy bear, then on one of my co-workers, and magically became a certified ear-piercing specialist!”
* If you walk into Vermont Teddy Bear and all the bears have pierced ears, you know there’s a new hire at Claire’s.
* These are so tame … I’ll bet BuzzFeed got money from the stores not to run the really bad ones.
* I’m glad there are no stories about Cinnabon or Auntie Anne’s. I wouldn’t want to leave here with a broken heart.
* With stories like this, it’s hard to believe there’s a hiring crisis.
