KOREAN CATS BLAMED IN OVER 100 FIRES

Fire officials in South Korea are warning pet owners to stay on their guard after more than 100 fires were started by cats over the past three years. The Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Department said cats caused a total of 107 house fires between January 2019 and November 2021. The cats are believed to have started the fires by switching on electric stoves by jumping on touch-sensitive buttons – once overheated, the appliances can catch fire.
– In America, according to the American Humane Association, pets are responsible for about 1,000 house fires in the United States every year. The association encourages owners to put covers on – or remove – stove knobs as a safety measure and says owners should discourage their pets from interacting with a stove.
* Unless your pet is a chicken or something just as delicious.
* Jumping on touch-sensitive stove buttons. Not quite as adorable as when they walk on piano keys.
* It’s not enough that cats are homicidal, now they’re cute little arsonists, too.
* Can they be taught to use little kitty-size fire extinguishers?
* They like the warmth, I’m told.
