GOAT AND ROOSTER SAVE CHICKEN FROM HAWK

Jaap Beets, a farmer in Gelderland, in the Netherlands, was in his farmhouse on September 5 when he heard a commotion coming from his livestock outside. He ran out to see his goat and his rooster chasing off a hawk that had attacked his chicken. He went back and looked at his security camera footage, which showed a goshawk dive-bombing one of his chickens, feathers flying in the air. Almost immediately, one of the farm’s roosters sprinted to the chick’s rescue, and then his goat Bruin joined the fracas (* Or, as we call it in America, ruckus), charging the hawk to scare it away. The chicken suffered only minor injuries (* And possible post-traumatic stress syndrome). Farmer Beets said this was the third attack on his chickens. “This was the second from a goshawk and the other was a buzzard.”
* Huh. Even other birds think chicken is yummy.
* Maybe Farmer Beets needs to rethink his efforts at raising chickens.
* If I was a farmer I’d be a little uneasy if my animals started learning how to work together.
* Farmer Beets. Bet he gets teased a lot.
* Forget Shark Week. What we need is Goat Week.
