WOMAN PULLS SICK DAY FOR SOCCER GAME, FACE BEAMED AROUND THE WORLD ON TV
A British soccer fan who called in to work sick so she could go watch England’s Three Lions beat Denmark at Wembley Stadium was fired after her employer spotted her on TV. Nina Farooqi, 37, called in for a sick day so she could travel to London for the Euro semi-final. She knew her company was unlikely to give her the day off due to being short-staffed. At one point, when England scored and tied up the game, Nina and her friend were shown on TV wildly celebrating, and the video clip was picked up by broadcasters around the world. She got phone calls from friends in Australia and the U.S. who had seen her on TV. She also got a call from her boss, who saw her on TV and told her she had violated company policy and to not bother coming back to work.
* Bueller!
* But … now they’ll be even MORE short-staffed.
* Her 15 minutes of fame came at exactly the wrong time.
* On the bright side, imagine how much it would have sucked if DENMARK had won.
* Hey, wait a minute – what was her boss doing watching the game on TV?
