MEN: WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT? DON’T EAT WITH WOMEN

A study by Cornell University researchers has shown men dining in women’s company consume almost twice as much food than when dining with other men. The researchers watched diners at an all-you-can-eat Italian buffet over two weeks, recording the number of pizza slices and bowls of salad each customer ate. The findings:
– Men who lunched with women ate 93 per cent more pizza (1.44 additional slices) and 86 per cent more salad that those who dined with members of the same gender.
– The effect was not observed in female diners. They ate the same amount regardless of their companions’ genders.
– Before leaving the restaurant, diners were also asked about their levels of fullness after eating, and their feelings of hurriedness while eating. Women eating with men tended to think they had eaten more, and reported feeling rushed.
The study’s lead author Kevin Kniffin said results suggested men overeat to show off to the ladies.
* Showing off? As in, “Look what a hog I am”?
* Maybe men eat more with women to cut down on the conversation.
* “You go on and tell me about your day. I’ll be over here, doing a face plant onto a large pizza.”
* The diners also reported it was creepy watching geeks writing down notes about them eating lunch.
