NOBEL COMMITTEE TO INCREASE CASH PRIZE THIS YEAR
Winners of the prestigious Nobel prizes this year will receive an extra $110,000, the head of the foundation which oversees the awards said on Thursday. Though the cash prize has varied over the years, in recent times the Nobel prize winners received 9 million crowns, or (US$935,366, €848,678, or £716,224). Prize money will increase to 10 million crowns this year. One Swedish krona, or crown, is worth 11 cents. Lars Heikensten, head of the Nobel Foundation, said the increase is possible because their “costs and capital are in a stable relation in a completely different way than previously.”
* You can’t argue with that. Give that man a Nobel Prize in Economics.
* I love thinking that all these Nobel prize winners are in it for the money.
* And then what do they do after they win a prize for, like, Chemistry or Academics or Science? Blow it on hookers and gambling.
* They ought to get all the winners to take a picture with a giant check, like Publisher’s Clearinghouse.
* This increase comes at a great time. I really want to redo my kitchen.
