MOUNT EVEREST IS REOPENING
The country of Nepal is reopening Mount Everest to climbers and tourists on Monday (August 17). The mountain was closed down for the pandemic. The spring season – the best to scale Everest – didn’t happen following a nationwide 120-day lockdown. According to a U.N. Development Program study, Nepal has lost $400 million in tourism business due to the virus. Trekking, mountaineering hotels, restaurants and businesses have been allowed to reopen since the end of July, and now the main reason for going to Nepal has reopened.
* Well, you don’t go there for the beaches.
* People want to climb Everest in the middle of a pandemic? Are they high?
* I hope they used the down time to clear away some of the loose rocks and touch up the snow. It was looking pretty shabby.
* I hear they’ve updated the yeti costume.
