AUDIO: THE MOST RELAXING SONG IN THE WORLD
A song (audio below) entitled “Weightless” from UK band Marconi Union is being called the “world’s most relaxing song”, because it was found to reduce anxiety, blood pressure and heart rate in people about to have a medical operation. In a University of Pennsylvania study of 157 people, the song performed as well as a sedative. The patients in the trial were either given the drug midazolam or listened to this song for three minutes, while having an anaesthetic to numb a region of the body. Patient anxiety reduced by the same amount in both groups.
* But I bet anxiety levels jumped back up once that scalpel jabbed in.
* How did the song do against something like, say, “Enter Sandman” by Metallica?
* Boy, Marconi Union live concerts must be a real blast.
* If you’re feeling drowsy, can you play it backwards to wake up?
* The “world’s most relaxing song”? Did they check through the entire musical output of countries like Moldova, Latvia and Malaysia to be sure?
* This just in from our traffic reporter. There has been a rash of random accidents around the city in the past 2 minutes since we started playing this music.
