WHICH STATES ARE MORE PEOPLE MOVING TO?
United Van Lines on Wednesday released its 42nd annual National Movers Study, which tracks customers’ state-to-state migration patterns. More people moved to Vermont this year than any other state.
The top inbound states of 2018 were:
1. Vermont
2. Oregon
3. Idaho
4. Nevada
5. Arizona
6. South Carolina
7. Washington
8. North Carolina
9. South Dakota
10. District of Columbia
* Vermont’s slogan: Come for the syrup; stay for the syrup.
* We had a story last year about a study that showed Vermont had the fewest STDs of any state. Coincidence?
* Looks like that show “Portlandia” wasn’t as much of a deterrent as Oregoners thought it would be.
The top outbound states for 2018 were:
1. New Jersey
2. Illinois
3. Connecticut
4. New York
5. Kansas
6. Ohio
7. Massachusetts
8. Iowa
9. Montana
10. Michigan
The survey showed approximately one out of every two people who moved in the past year moved for a new job or company transfer. Other reasons for the high percentage of moves in 2018 include retirement, proximity to family, and people just wanting a lifestyle change.
* If this keeps up, maybe New Jersey will be nicer when it’s less crowded? … Nah.
* New Jersey is #1 in people leaving only because the tunnels and bridges back up and nobody can get back into the state in time for the head count.
