MAN ROBS BANK ON TINY ARCTIC ISLAND
An armed robber attempted to rob a bank in the world’s northernmost settlement in the Arctic circle. It was the first-ever bank robbery on Svalbard, a small Norwegian island about halfway between Scandinavia and the North Pole. Svalbard has around 2,000 inhabitants and practically everyone knows each other. The robber was arrested quickly in the town center and transferred to a jail in Norway. Police said the suspect was a foreigner traveling in the region. The only ways to leave the island are by plane, boat, or eaten by one of the many polar bears that live there.
* The lure of cold cash was too great.
* Nice to see Svalbard’s tourism initiative working out so well.
* What kind of idiot does something bad right down the street from Santa at the end of December?
* Is the cooler he’s now sitting in cooler than the island where he committed the crime?
