SAUDIS WANT TO ISOLATE QATAR BY TURNING IT INTO AN ISLAND

Saudi Arabia is considering digging a canal along its eastern border to separate Qatar, which sits on its own peninsula, and turn it into an island. The Saudis, along with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, cut diplomatic, trade and transport ties with Qatar in June 2017, accusing it of supporting terrorism. The plan would be to dig a 37 mile (60 kilometer) channel measuring 200 yards wide and 60 feet deep stretching across the entire border with Qatar. As an extra “up yours”, the Saudis would then build a military base and a nuclear waste dump beside the canal. The cost was estimated at $747 million.
