ILLEGAL TURTLE FARM RAIDED

Europe’s largest illegal turtle farm was raided Thursday. Police in Mallorca, Spain, rescued more than 1,100 turtles – including endangered species selling for nearly $12,000 each. Police also seized about 750 eggs, and 200 female turtles that were about to lay eggs. Specimens of 14 of the 50 most endangered species in the world were also discovered at the illicit pet farm, officials said. A Barcelona pet shop specializing in exotic animals was allegedly used as a front to smuggle the exotic animals in and out of Spain.
* Oh, a shell company, eh?
* It sounds like they were doing a pretty good job of producing endangered turtles. Where’s the problem?
* The raid took about 15 hours. There was no need to hurry.
* 750 eggs? That’s a bigger clutch than the one on a Ford F-150.
* Does a $12,000 turtle really act any different in the tank than one you get for six bucks at PetSmart?
