MAN FAKES DEATH TO SCAM HIS FAMILY OUT OF MONEY FOR FUNERAL
A Thai man faked his own death in an attempt to get relatives to send money to cover funeral costs. Tachawit Janngiw had his wife post three photos of his “dead body” on Facebook on Sunday complete with cotton up his nose to add a touch of realism. She wrote that he died of both cancer and asthma. When people began asking why he had not previously displayed any symptoms of illness, she replied that he “pretended he was okay all along.” She then called her husband’s mother, asking for money to pay for funeral expenses. The grief-stricken family wired $590 to her to pay for a coffin and vehicle to take his body back to his hometown. The family began making funeral arrangements and contacted a temple in preparation for the body arriving the next day. But when the body didn’t arrive, Tachawit’s cousin called his cell phone. After answering, Tachawit quickly hung up after realizing who was on the other end. Though the family has lost the $1,800 funeral costs, his mom said she doesn’t bear a grudge against him.
* But if she sees him she’ll kill him for faking his own death.
* The reaction I would have expected is “He’s dead to me.”
* So remember, folks, when faking your own death, changing your phone number is at the top of the list of things to do.
* In Thailand, does cotton come out of your nose when you die? Is that the sign?
* Maybe when you die they put cotton up your nose ’cause being dead stinks.
