AUDIO: SMART PEOPLE WEAR GLASSES

A University of Edinburgh study has found intelligent people are 30% more likely to have genes related to poor eyesight. Meaning: smart people wear glasses. The new study, published in the journal Nature Communications, analyzed cognitive and genetic data from over 300,000 people aged between 16 and 102. Their analysis found “significant genetic overlap between general cognitive function, reaction time, and many health variables including eyesight, hypertension, and longevity”. Specifically, people who were more intelligent were almost 30% more likely to have genes which might indicate they’d need to wear glasses. Of course, they remind us, that these are all simply correlations not conclusive links.
* Well, you can’t argue with the lack of science.
* So, never mind. Sorry about the click bait headline.
* Did we mention that nobody who worked on this study wears glasses?
* Just like at that journal that agreed to publish it.
* I have to wear a pair of cheaters over my usual glasses when I work on the computer. That must mean I’m double smart.
